Sweet treats: Easy, delicious chocolate truffles!

These have got to be the most delicious lazy cooking I do. I was given the recipe by a girl at a fashion swap, and she had made a vegan alternative to this which was almost as tasty.

To make these gorgeous truffles, you're going to need:
1 packet Oreos
1 tub Philadelphia cream cheese
250g chocolate (dark, milk or white, just make sure it's as nice as possible. Better quality chocolate is a must for this. I used Cadbury dairy Milk)

Ok, let's get started...

Make sure you have the cleanest hands in the world. This recipe involves lots of smooshing and hand mixing.

Break the Oreos into little pieces in a large mixing bowl, then add the entire tub of cream cheese. (For the vegan alternative, you can use Tofutti instead of cream cheese, and dependent on your vegan beliefs, you could use 80% dark chocolate. The Oreos, you have to be careful with if you are vegan. The Kraft version are about as vegan as they get, though they are made in machines that also process dairy products. The Nabisco version have milk in them.) Smoosh the cream cheese and the Oreos together until there's an even mix of oreo bits through the cream cheese.

The next bit you could do a few different ways. Here's how i do it, and my reasons for doing it this way.

I pop the Oreo/cream cheese mixture into the fridge for half an hour to soften the Oreos. This will make it easier to roll it into balls. After half an hour, roll the mixture into balls, then set them on a plate in the freezer for a further half hour. This avoids a massive cream cheese mess through your melted chocolate when you coat them.

Once they are semi frozen, you can melt the chocolate by breaking it up into a microwave safe bowl and nuking it for 1 minute. When it comes out, it won't all be melted and smooth, but the residual heat will be enough to melt down whatever's still solid if you stir it with a chocolate whisk or a fork. IMPORTANT NOTE: If your chocolate just doesn't seem to want to melt and becomes crumbly, give up. You've seized it by putting it under heat for too long. Chocolate is a complex creature and requires TLC to get it right.

Lay a piece of baking paper (or clingwrap) over a flat surface (chopping board), then begin dipping your frozen balls of Oreo mixture, rolling them so that they are completely coated in chocolate, then pop them onto the baking paper. Once you have done all of them, you can put the chopping board straight into the fridge and let the chocolate set (I usually allow an hour, but the frozen mixture will start the setting process immediately).

And voila! Gorgeous, absolutely delicious truffles.

Josh gives them 5 stars out of 5, and says " Can I please have some more?"
Now that's a good review!

Let me know if you try them, and what you think!
